SKIRT white midi skirt (on sale!) | SHIRT ruffle neck shirt (on sale!) | SHOES white platform wedges | BAG woven bag (old Forever21, similar linked)
This season, the calf-length hem line, commonly nicknamed the “midi,” is making quite the splash. And I’ll be honest… this 5’2″ girl initially wasn’t too thrilled about it! Raised by an also-petite mother who taught me the importance of a well-placed hem when it comes to dressing shorter frames, I can assure you that five inches above the ankle was never one I had in my closet.
But there’s something so classically feminine about the look that this spring, that I couldn’t help myself. I had to give it a try, and this eyelet style from J.Crew turned out to be the winner!
Now I will say… it took my lots of attempts to find a midi skirt that flattered instead of overwhelmed my frame. Turns out there’s a delicate balance between effortlessly elegant and awkwardly oversized. (Who knew?) But the ruffle, width and length of this one, not to mention the light, flowy material, worked together perfectly.
For all you taller ladies, midi skirts can be worn with any number of tops while still looking fabulous, from simple white tees to crop. For you short girls, on the other hand, stick to pairing midi skirts with a shorter, more fitted top to balance out the billowy bottom: I tied up this matching button down, and love the timeless look it created!

The way you knotted the white tank is so cute! I would not have thought to tie a shirt like that but you make it look adorable so I’ll be trying it soon.

I wish I could wear something like this! I’m always eerie because it might not flatter me… but I’m trying to branch out. You look great in this!

I used to absolutely hate midi and maxi dresses because I thought they just made me look frumpy, this year though there have been so many cute options that are anything but!
