Weekend Wanderings

Fridays are the best.

They get even better when they include a trip to the lake.

And that gets even better when you get to pack in cute luggage!

Vera Bradley Jon Hart Preppy Luggage

So it’s safe to say I’m going to have the best Friday ever. I’m headed off to the charming little town of Scott, Arkansas for boating, baby showers, and delicious BBQ.

For weekend trips to destinations in and around Texas, you can be sure to find me with 3 items.

My Jon Hart makeup case.

Jon Hart Makeup Case

I received this darling makeup case as a graduation gift from my Aunt and Uncle, and  I don’t think I’d be able to make do without it.

Scratch that. I absolutely could not make do without it.

The bag is made of leather and looks brand new after 2 years of use. HEAVY use. It fits all of my makeup and toiletries, along with a brush and straightener. So it’s no surprise that I take this thing everywhere.

Everyone knows it’s not a real graduation present unless it’s monogrammed. (If you’re from the South, that is.) Lucky for you, monograms are a staple of every Jon Hart piece.

The quality, customization, and style of Jon Hart bags have made this San Antonio based company the luggage preference of Texan collegiates, both girls and guys alike.

My Vera Bradley duffle bag.

This beauty was also a graduation present, this time from my Mimi. (I’m tempted to think graduation presents beat out most gift-giving holidays.)

She knows me well, and opted for the largest size. This means I can over-pack to my hearts desire, and I have yet to find it inadequate for a weekend getaway. The soft material, however, makes this bag easy to squish and stow in tight places.

In true Texas fashion, my all-knowing grandmother had the biggest monogram possible placed on it. Does that mean I get looks at the airport? Yes. Does it mean I have the cuter bag? Sure thing, :)

My cowboy boots.

Lucchese Southern Cowboy Boots Preppy Style

No surprise here. Believe it or not, these serve a purpose other than a game day accessory. (Although I love that use.) Country-dwelling creatures that seem to be drawn to flavor ice loving, 5’2″ females, so I feel safer walking around the wild in shoes that offer a bit of a barrier.

I’m not claiming that it’s the peak of fashion, but I’ve been known to throw these on with Nike shorts and an oversized t-shirt for evening walks and 4-wheeler rides. Just throwing that out there.

There’s no reason why your travel accessories can’t fit right in to your sense of style. Mine certainly do, and I’m excited to make memories this weekend in the items they’ll carry.

    Hi Kate,

I absolutely love your make-up case & duffel bag! They are honestly so adorable! Just a question about Vera Bradley – I’m from Canada and we do not have those stores here. I travel every year though to Orlando, and they have a Vera Bradley outlet there. Do you know if the outlet stores carry everything they post on their online website? If so, I was just going to wait until I travel down there again to buy a duffel bag of my own. Also, do you know if they will still monogram my duffel bag at the outlet stores, or is that just something that is only done online?

By the way, I loved your Preppy in Pink outfit you posted a while back – basically all your outfits thus far! I too am a lover of all things southern, especially anything related to Florida. Your bright, pastel-coloured combinations have inspired me to freshen up my own wardrobe, to keep me reminded of the place I love travelling to most :) Please keep posting more of your southern-inspired outfits…I need all the fashion help I can get!

    Thanks & take care,

    Amanda

  2. Amanda,
Your sweet comment brightened my day! :) I have never been to a Vera Bradley outlet, but my best guess is that they sell older prints and/or overstocked items from this season. I would definitely recommend going – outlets are my favorite and I’m sure you will find more than one bag you can’t live without. Also, I don’t believe Vera Bradley offers a monogramming service. I just took it to my neighborhood monogrammer (is that a word?:) and had it done! Finally, thank you for your sweet words about the style posts I’ve made thus far! I can’t tell you what it means to hear that someone loves the same Southern style! Best of luck as you continue bringing sweet Southern charm to Canada! You’ll have to let me know how your outlet shopping trip goes! :) Have a wonderful day!
    My Very Best,
    Kate

  4. I’m extremely impressed with your writing skills and also with the layout on your weblog. Is this a paid theme or did you modify it yourself? Anyway keep up the nice quality writing, it’s rare to see a nice blog like
    this one nowadays.

    • Thank you so much! The theme is the free “Forever” template from WordPress. I’ve modified it to suit the character of the blog. It took a lot of time and tweaking, but I’m happy with the results and am so encouraged that you like it. Thank you again!
