signing off until the new year

Merry, merry Christmas friends! Wherever you are right now, I hope it’s cozy and warm, and that a big cup of coffee is involved!

MERRY, MERRY CHRISTMAS FRIENDS!

Wherever you are right now, I hope it’s cozy and warm, and that a big cup of coffee is involved!

When I was younger, I was up at ungodly hours of the morning just giddy in anticipation of what Santa brought and what my parents placed under the tree. Now, it’s the coffee and the incredible Christmas brunch my mother makes that gets me out of bed… and the thought of staying in my pj’s all day! No matter how old I get, there’s really nothing like Christmas morning.

This Christmas is especially sweet because it’s me and Andrews first Christmas as an engaged couple! Which means double the fun, right? I feel so thankful both of our families are celebrating in Dallas this year. It’s the best of both worlds getting to spend time with both. I know that’s a rare gift we won’t have every year in the future!

Now, if you’re anything like me, you will be in pjs all day. And speaking of pjs, I thought it would be fun to share a piece of loungewear I never thought I’d ever wear, but have been absolutely loving this past month… these jogger pants! This pair accompanied me to Vail a couple of weeks ago, and were my favorite thing to snuggle up in after a cold day in the mountains!

I haven’t reached the point where I feel comfortable wearing them in public, but for staying cozy inside the house, they’re the best. Now if I can just have that snowy landscape whenever I wear them as well! The view from my window this morning is much less of a winter wonderland (thank you, Dallas) but so is life in the South.

Before I close, I wanted to let y’all know that I will be signing off until the new year in order to soak in special time with family! And man am I excited. I take this “blog vacation” every year after Christmas, and having a full week away from the blog never fails to refresh, refuel and reinspire me for an incredible start to the new year!

I’ll back on January 3rd with a new “Wedding Wednesday” post, and let me just tell you that this is BY FAR my biggest update yet. You don’t want to miss it!

In the meantime, I’ll be heading to Little Rock, Arkansas to see all of my aunts/uncles and cousins, and then Andrew and I will be heading to Louisiana to see his side on the 29th! There’s nothing I love more than a good road trip, especially during the holidays. Needless to say, I’m so excited!

So until January 3rd, I’m wishing you the merriest Christmas and the happiest new year! Thank you all for being such a huge, special part of my 2018. I am already so excited about what we’ll experience in 2019 together!

Love from Texas,

Kate

’twas the night before christmas

Merry Christmas Eve, y’all! It’s hard to believe this magical holiday is here. After all of the hustle and bustle involved in prepping, I’m sure you’re taking a big sigh of relief with me. We made it!

COAT   j.crew factory vail parka (available in 4 colors, order normal dress number size)   |   SCARF   plaid blanket scarf   |   HAT   red faux fur pom pom hat  (available in 9 colors)  |   SWEATER   red crewneck sweater (fits true to size, wearing XS)   |   JEANS   j.crew jeans   |   SHOES   red hunter rain boots

Merry Christmas Eve, y’all! It’s hard to believe this magical holiday is here. After all of the hustle and bustle involved in prepping, I’m sure you’re taking a big sigh of relief with me. We made it!

I’ve packed up and “moved” into my parent’s house for the holiday, and even though their house only a couple of minutes away from my apartment, there’s something about it that really does feel like coming home!

We’ll head to a Christmas Eve service this afternoon at the church I grew up in as a little girl and enjoy our annual tamale dinner afterward. (Does anyone else eat tamales for Christmas Eve dinner? I know it’s not just us!)

Then, my sister and I will open up a pair of matching pajamas from my parents, and get in bed to watch Eloise At Christmastime! This is one of our very favorite traditions. But I will say… the older we get, the quicker we fall asleep into the movie. And the longer we sleep in on Christmas morning… oops! :)

I’m going to keep this post rather short and sign off now so you can get back to whatever traditions today holds for you! I’d love to hear what Christmas Eve traditions you have in your family!

I look forward to seeing you here tomorrow so I can wish you a Merry Christmas and sign off for a week of vacation! I’ll fill you in on where I’m going and who with then.

Wishing you a wonderful evening filled with light!

“The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost.  But I received mercy for this reason, that in me, as the foremost, Jesus Christ might display his perfect patience as an example to those who were to believe in him for eternal life.”

my last minute christmas errands

My craziest day of the year is here! You know the one… the day that you push and push all of your last-minute Christmas errands to. The traffic is insane, the stores are packed to the brim, but something about the hustle and bustle of this day puts me in the Christmas spirit like nothing else!

WHITE BRACELET // TAN BRACELET // DELICATE BRACELET

My craziest day of the year is here! You know the one… the day that you push and push all of your last-minute Christmas errands to. The traffic is insane, the stores are packed to the brim, but something about the hustle and bustle of this day puts me in the Christmas spirit like nothing else!

I got an early start this morning and made a rare point to dress up for the occasion. I’m usually in workout clothes when I’m running around town, but there’s something about putting on faux fur, red lipstick and my new Victoria Emerson wrap bracelets that make me extra merry when it comes to running Christmas errands.

If you haven’t heard of Victoria Emerson, you’re in luck! Today, I’m so excited to be partnering with the line to introduce a few of my favorite pieces with you. I have a feeling you’re going to fall in love with them, too!

When it comes to accessories, I’m very picky. (And that’s an understatement.) If a bracelet isn’t elegant, versatile and lovely all at once, I simply won’t wear it. That’s why when I saw my sister sporting a wrap bracelet, I immediately fell in love. It didn’t take long for me to decide that I had to get one (or two!) for myself.

After combing through all of the gorgeous color options on the Victoria Emerson website, I settled on this white and gold wrap, this tan and white wrap and this delicate crystal bracelet for a set I can easily mix and match, as well as dress up or down. Because the price point is so accessible ($30-$40 range) I was also able to grab a few as presents for a few of my friends.

I just love the subtle sparkle they give any ensemble and have been getting compliments on them all day. Talk about making things merry and bright! :) You’ll find the whole line here!

Now, I thought it would be fun to share a few of the stops I’ll be making today. If you’re in Dallas, I’d love to know a few of your favorite Christmas stops as well!

KUBY’S // First on the list… hot chocolate! I think Kuby’s has the best in Dallas. The last time I went in, however, they told me they changed the recipe. Just ask for the original recipe and you’ll be set! :)

ST. BERNARD’S SPORTS // This is, without fail, where I always find gifts for my dad! I get into trouble there way too easily, though, as they also have an amazing women’s department. You’ve been warned!

NEKTER // My favorite stop for lunch on a busy day like today? Nektar! You’ll find me with an Acaii Banana Berry Bowl. Yum!

THE IMPECCABLE PIG // Y’all know my love for the pig. Might have to grab myself a little something!

NORTHPARK MALL // As much as I try to avoid it, I know I’ll be swinging by Northpark today. It’s my favorite mall to shop at in Dallas, and is right around the corner from me!

STEIN’S // For a mid-afternoon shopping treat, I’m planning on running by one of my favorite bakeries. We’ve been chowing down on their gingerbread men since I was a little girl!

DEAR HANNAH // This boutique is one of my sister and I’s favorites in Dallas. I still want to get my sister one more thing, so I’ll be headed here to see if I can find something!

OISHII // For dinner, I’m dying to get a table at my favorite sushi restaurant in Dallas. My parents and I are planning on an early dinner so we can go see Christmas lights after!

CHRISTMAS LIGHTS // After dinner, we’ll head over to Highland Park Village to grab a Starbucks, see the gorgeous lights, and then drive around the neighborhood to see some incredibly-decorated homes. We usually take my dad’s convertible and bundle up with the top down. There’s no Christmas tradition I love more!

Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas! Can’t believe Christmas Eve is MONDAY!

Love from Tecas,

Kate

I hope you enjoy!

DRESS   alexia maria bow skirt dress c/o (25% off today with code AMGIFT)   |   SHOES   christian louboutin simple pump   |   EARRINGS   pearl drop earrings (old Kate Spade, similar linked)   |   LIP COLOR   darling pink

This was the second of two outfits Andrew and I photographed in… and I have to say, I think it’s my favorite! I was so excited to wear this stunning dress from one of my favorite designers, Alexia Maria. The team was so incredibly kind to send it over in time for our engagement session, and I was literally jumping up and down in my apartment when it arrived on my doorstep.

I love the Audrey Hepburn feel it has to it, and that detachable skirt? Too fun! I plan on wearing the dress without the skirt to a wedding shower in the future! (P.S. It comes in a million colors, and I’m dying for it in red!)

And can we talk about how sharp Andrew looked in a navy suit? Let’s just say the trout socks were his idea… and I honestly love that he wore them. They are so him. :)

I really wanted an ensemble that would make for classic and timeless photos we’d love for years to come, and I’m so thrilled with the result. I am already looking forward to getting a few of these framed and displayed, as I think they’ll look even more beautiful printed out! There’s something about a tangible photograph that just gets me, know what I mean?

I’m actually going in to meet with the John Cain team in a couple weeks to select our favorites and choose one for our save the date, and I don’t know how on earth I’ll pick just one. If you have a favorite, let me know!

I know I’ve already gushed about this in last week’s post, but I have to say again just how completely magical this afternoon was. Andrew, John and I all look back on it with such a happy heart! Let’s just say… if it’s any taste of what the wedding will be like, I think I’ll just collapse of happiness.

Now that Andrew and I can check this off of our list, I’d love to write a post on how to have fun with and take amazing engagement photos. Would y’all be interested in something like that? If you have any specific questions, please let me know!

And before signing off, I wanted to share two “outtakes” from this evening. The first is Andrew oh-so-proudly showing off his trout socks. Look at that smirk, y’all!

The second? One of my favorite photos of all time. After we wrapped up the shoot, Andrew and I walked back to my car. It was getting chilly, and so he gave me his coat to wear. John, our photographer, saw it happen and pulled out his camera to snap this candid shot. Of all the photos we took, it may be my favorite because of that memory.

Once again, thank you all for letting me relive this wonderful evening with you! It’s so fun to be able to share this entire journey with y’all, and I hope you’ve enjoyed this second look at our engagement photos!

Now that we’re inching closer and closer to the big day, I’m so excited to share some more incredibly exciting Wedding Wednesday posts with y’all. Let’s just say I have some MAJOR updates to share. Stay tuned!

Love from Texas,

Kate

lights, camera…

a koolaburra christmas

It’s no secret around here that I love love love these boots, and today I’m excited to be partnering with Koolaburra to show you my new favorite winter style… the Kinslei!

BOOTS   koolaburra kinslei boots (wear buttoned up or folded down)

When it comes to my wardrobe, you can easily tell what I love most just by looking in my closet. I have more than a few pink dresses hanging one after the other, a neat stack of classic white tees folded on the shelf, and on the floor? A row of my favorite, furry Koolaburra boots!

It’s no secret around here that I love love love these boots, and today I’m excited to be partnering with Koolaburra to show you my new favorite winter style… the Kinslei!

Do you remember the Victoria boots I posted about earlier this fall? Y’all know I can’t resist a good bow, and the cute detailing along the sides of these boots have made them a pair I’ve worn all autumn long.

I should have probably stopped myself right there, but when I saw these adorable Kinslei boots from Koolaburra, and how you can wear them both buttoned up or folded down, I couldn’t resist. They had to come along, too! Blame it on the button detailing of these cuties. During winter, I love a fun fur statement and couldn’t be more obsessed with how festive these look unbuttoned and folded over.

I always get questions about Koolaburra boots and let me tell you. The quality is amazing, and they’re just as comfortable and cozy as any I’ve owned! They’re also priced at just under $100, which makes them a fabulous option for yourself, or for gifting to others this Christmas! As for sizing, I order one size up from my usual for a perfect fit!

I know, I know… I should seriously stop myself now. Three pairs of Koolaburra boots should be plenty for anyone, right? But I have a sneaky feeling I’m not done yet. I may have to add these slippers to my collection, or at least say I’m getting them for my sister this Christmas and accidentally keep for myself instead? :)

Love from Texas,

Kate

formal dress ideas for winter

Between Christmas parties, winter weddings, formals and functions, it seems like there’s always an excuse to don a fabulous party dress during these winter months! The tricky part? Actually finding one you love!

DRESS   magenta one shoulder mini dress (runs big, order usual US dress size)   |   COAT   black faux fur collar coat (available in 4 colors, order usual US size)   |   EARRINGS   bow earrings   |   CLUTCH   faux fur clutch (available in 4 colors, similar here)    |   SHOES   suede pointy toe pumps   |   LIP COLOR   merry rose

Between Christmas parties, winter weddings, formals and functions, it seems like there’s always an excuse to don a fabulous party dress during these winter months! The tricky part? Actually finding one you love!

Tips on where to find winter formal dresses is a request I’ve been getting frequently as of late, so today I’m excited to be partnering with Nordstrom in revealing one of my very favorite lines for gorgeous, stylish and affordable party dresses… Topshop!

Take this gorgeous hot pink mini dress, for example. Between the blousey one-shoulder sleeve, the waisted detailing and the leopard jacquard fabric, it has so many stylish elements that make it look far more expensive than $95.

And speaking of pieces that look more expensive than they are, another Topshop piece I have been wearing on repeat lately? This gorgeous faux fur collar coat! I ordered it in black initially, but fell in love with it in-person so much so that I also ordered it in this gorgeous camel shade, too!

You’ll find so many pieces that offer gorgeous style at an affordable price in the Topshop line. I’m dying to get my hands on this sequined sweater, for example, and this glam feather shoulder bag. Both are under $100!

For those of you who are looking for a festive party dress, check out these gorgeous pieces from Topshop. So many fun options for everything from New Year’s Eve soirees to debutant parties and everything in between!

Keep in mind, Topshop sizing runs smaller than others! I recommend using the “(fits like a …)” blurb to the right of each size, and sizing up one from your usual! For example, I typically wear a size 0, so I almost always order a size “4 US (fits like a 0-2)” in tops and dresses. This dress and coat were a rare exception, I ordered a 2 US for a perfect fit!

Now I have to ask… if you had to pick, which Topshop dress above would be your fave?

Love from Texas,

Kate
