Happy happy happy Mother’s Day, y’all! There’s so much to love about today, simply because moms are the BEST. I finished my last exam last night, and am on the road home today to hug my mama, celebrate her day, and kick off summer!
College life certainly has brought about all the independence and adventure it’s promised to bring, but I’d be lying if I told you I wasn’t on the phone with my mama at least a few times a week. She has been the biggest influence in figuring out what life on my own looks like, and so much of her wisdom has seeped into the habits and perspectives I’ve formed while here. I don’t have it all figured out, but today I thought I’d share how I try to simplify my life so I can focus on what’s important, just as she has always done for me!
For me, that looks like waking up, grabbing a cup of coffee, and spending time in the Word. I have to constantly remind myself to make this a priority, because it isn’t always easy! (If you’re looking for a simple way to get into the Word, Join the Journey is one of my faves!)
I feel like I’m always busy, always pressed for time, etc. But when I think of what I actually fill my day with, I realize there is so much needlessness I could cut out to make room for the little things that bring so much joy. Cuddle with your pup a little longer, call the friend you’ve been meaning to catch up with for months, read an actual book, go for a walk. Take time for the little things!
This is a double edged sword. It’s nearly impossible for me to be productive without having a list, but often those lists result in silly stress. I don’t know if there’s ever a perfect balance of organization and flexibility, but that balance is something I try to remember to achieve every day.
Well… gulp… figured I’d better practice what I preach on this one. (Nothing like rush to bring out the crazy in everyone, am I right?) The world of posing, dieting, glam instagram selfies, “too cool” attitudes and photoshop can get old really fast. Eat the piece of cake. Heck, eat the whole thing. Be nice. Smile a lot. Realize that life is more fun when you don’t take everything, including ourself, too seriously.
When you’re surrounded by people you love, life is just better. It’s more fun, more special, and more simple, because our family, our friends, and especially are mamas seem to always have the best advice, the biggest hugs, and the best ways to remind us of what’s important.
Wishing you a lovely day with your mommy dearest!
Love from Texas,
Kate

What a great post! I am list maker as well and I don’t know what I would do without my Lilly Pulitzer planner! It keeps me organized!
