recipe // andrew’s swamp water

Happy Memorial Day, friends! However we’re remembering and celebrating our fallen heroes today, I hope we all take a moment to remember of the ultimate sacrifice many, many men and women have made on our behalf. What a gift it is to live in America. May we never take for granted the blessing it is to be free!

Today, in the spirit of celebration, I thought I would share a fun recipe you’ve been asking for.

In his limited time off, Andrew has become quite the mixologist! I’m not sure if it’s because he’s so science-minded (#madscientist vibes over here) or what, but the concoctions he manages to come up with are delicious.

A few weeks into quarantine, he came up with one cocktail in particular that I have become obsessed with! I kept asking for it again and again, and finally made him sit down to write out the receipe.

Think of it as a cross between a ranch water and a mojito… it’s light, refreshing, a little bit sweet, and you’re going to love it!

As an ode to our new home here in Gainesville, Florida, we thought it was only fitting to call it Swamp Water. It’s a bit more involved than your easy Ranch Water, but trust me, this drink is worth it. Here’s the recipe… I hope you enjoy!

This recipe makes approximately two servings.

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 oz of good tequila (we love Casamigos Blanco)
  • 1 oz of simple syrup
  • 1 oz of fresh lime juice
  • 2 dashes of orange bitters
  • 4 mint leaves
  • 1 bottle of Topo Chico

INSTRUCTIONS

Muddle mint leaves in the bottom of a shaker. Pour in the rest of the ingredients. Fill the shaker with ice. Shake, shake, shake! Pour through a strainer into a chilled glass over ice until the glass is half-full. Top with Topo Chico. Garnish with mint leaves and lime. Enjoy!

The great thing about this drink is it’s nearly impossible to mess up. If you wish, you can also add more or less Topo Chico depending on how strong you like it. We’ve also played around with using Topo Chico with a Twist of Lime instead of original Topo Chico, and it’s delicious as well. The main thing is to have fun with it!

I would absolutely love to know how you like it! Be sure to tag me in your IG Stories if you share so I can see!

Love from the Sunshine State,

Kate
