Once I get a bee in my bonnet, as they say, it’s hard for me to focus on anything else. And lately, that bee has been outfitting my office with an Ikea Pax Closet!

It all began when I tidied up (and that’s a nice way of putting it) my office and realized just how much underutalized space I had on the longest wall in the room. That empty space, coupled with the constant organizational nightmare that is my office, sparked an idea. What if I could find an affordable way to bring in a built-in shelving/closet look?

A bit of hashtag searching on Instagram and a few minutes on Pinterest landed me on the Ikea Pax Closet… a cost-effective, customizable storage solution that you can design online. Input your room dimensions, add walls and windows, even choose your paint and floor color, then design away! I’ve been hooked ever since.

I’ve had the best time playing around with options via the design portal, and think I’ve nearly finalized my closet layout. I can’t wait to hopefully share it with you soon! In the meantime, here are a few images that inspired the look and feel of my design. I hope you enjoy!

Swoon. I love how clean and consistent this combination is, and plan on using a consistent level pull-out drawers to ground each unit like in this photo! The gold and acrylic drawer pulls elevate this Ikea system instantly. Taking notes!

I had initially planned on using fixed shelves, but have changed my tune after seeing these pull-out shoe trays incorporated so seamlessly. This post has some amazing tips for elevating the Ikea Pax system, btw!

This setup is giving me all the Princess Diaries 2 vibes. You know… the moment when Mia walks into her palatial closet to see row after row of jewels? (That image has stuck with me since middle school.) I definitely plan on incorporating a lit jewelry trey positioned underneath a chic glass shelf like in this photo!

Combining two larger units with two smaller units, like above, is what makes the most sense for my closet format. (Although I think I’ll place the smaller units on the outside as opposed to in the middle.) I love all of the different uses of space this design incorporates!

Here’s a better look at the layout I’m envisioning… two large middle units flocked by two narrower outer units sectioned into lots of smaller compartments!

Feeling oh-so-inspired and oh-so-ready to make this project happen. Do you have an Ikea wardrobe system? Would love to hear all of your thoughts, recommendations and tips!

Love from the Sunshine State,

Kate

I love it!! I used Elfa from the Container store. Since you guys will probably be moving be sure what you buy can easily be disassembled so you can take it with you. I turned a spare bedroom into my closet in NC and when we moved to Gainesville I was able to bring all of the pieces with me and repurpose them.
