the $35 target dress i’ve been wearing non-stop

I thought it was cute! But little did I know it would become the most-worn piece in my closet over these past few weeks by a long shot. So today, I thought I’d give a little shoutout to my current wardrobe MVP, this dress!

DRESS black puff sleeved dress (wearing XS, also available in plus sizes)

A couple of months ago, I did a little Target try-on haul of a few fun and affordable spring dresses. In it? A roomy little black dress with a few on-trend elements… blousy fit, puffy sleeves, etc.

I thought it was cute! But little did I know it would become the most-worn piece in my closet over these past few weeks by a long shot. So today, I thought I’d give a little shoutout to my current wardrobe MVP, this dress!

why i love it

  • So comfortable. Take a look at the silhouette and you’ll see why. Roomy for days (no buttons or zippers for me, thankyaverymuch) and 100% cotton. I’ll throw it on at the start of the day and when Flynn’s evening walk rolls around, it’s still so comfortable that I won’t even change out of it.
  • On-Trend. The chic, trendy cut makes me feel stylish with zero effort and zero fuss. A little puffed sleeve action goes a long way in giving this easy, simple dress the perfect current touch! Wanting to switch up the look? You can also wear the sleeves off the shoulder.
  • Machine washable. Because who has time for anything else?
  • Versatile. When I initially tried it on, my first thought was to pair it with wedges for a more festive look. These past few weeks, though, as I’ve been spending more time at home, I’ve been wearing it with everything from sneakers to sandals, fresh blow-outs to messy-buns, headbands to sunhats, the list goes on. It’s a “dress it up, dress it down” piece in every way.
  • Pockets. Enough said.
  • Black. Y’all know I love colorful ensembles, but the simple black makes it work with everything. This isn’t exactly rocket science, but a fun and chic change from my usual go-to nonetheless.
  • Comes in plus sizes. This dress is available from XS to 4X! A word on fit: It is definitely meant to fit on the roomy side, so I wouldn’t necessarily size down. Keep in mind, I am 5’2″ and it is a bit long on me!
  • $34.99

So if you could use a dress to make staying at home feel a bit more sophisticated, walking the dog feel a bit more debonair, zoom calls feel a bit more snazzy or grabbing a socially distanced coffee feel a bit more chic, look no further. I’ve loved this dress and plan to wear it all the way into fall. I think you will too!

white midi skirt

When the season of blousey skirts, big sleeves and ladylike details comes to a close, I’m going to be oh so sad. There’s something timeless and lovely about the feminine silhouette of a beautiful maxi dress or midi skirt that will always draw me in.

When the season of blousey skirts, big sleeves and ladylike details comes to a close, I’m going to be oh so sad. There’s something timeless and lovely about the feminine silhouette of a beautiful maxi dress or midi skirt that will always draw me in. Even at 5’2″, I love the look!

I have been so impressed by the styles H&M has been putting out recently. It’s become my go-to destination lately for that look. The retailer has a knack for creating luxury looks at an attainable price point… my weakness!

Take this skirt, for example. The first thing that caught my eye about it was actually the woven belt. I’ve been on the lookout for an affordable style for months and immediately envisioned all of the different ensembles I could wear it with!

Not only is the belt fabulous (it doesn’t have a clasp, FYI, it just loops through the buckle) the classic, the tailored skirt is right up my alley. I love the thought of it paired with a cute smocked top to give it a younger, more fun feel and later on paired with a creamy white sweater and a leather belt for a chic all-white winter ensemble.

Last evening, right in our backyard, I pretended I was strolling the streets of Florence on a warm spring night. Until we can travel again, make-believe will do for now. And lovely outfits help!

10 southern destinations i can’t wait to visit

Over the past few weeks, I’ve started a list of places we’d love to visit and thought it would be fun to share them with you today. From mountain hideaways to elegant beach clubs to small-town gems, here are 10 southern destinations I can’t wait to visit!

I’ll be the first to say all this time spent social distancing has given me a new love for home. Slow walks around the neighborhood, lazy evenings out on our porch… it’s true what they say, home is where the heart is!

And while I’ve loved every second of soaking up this slower pace, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t looking forward to traveling once again once this is all over! Who’s with me?

Now that Andrew and I live in Florida, we’re much closer, and within driving distance, to many of the beautiful destinations here in the South that were always just a bit too far from Texas. We want to really make the most of our time here, and our favorite topic is “where will we go next?”

Over the past few weeks, I’ve started a list of places we’d love to visit and thought it would be fun to share them with you today. From mountain hideaways to elegant beach clubs to small town gems, here are 10 southern destinations I can’t wait to visit!

Elizabeth Pointe Lodge

Amelia Island, Florida

This beautiful bed and breakfast, Elizabeth Point Lodge, is just a couple of hours from us on Amelia Island, and is one of the first places we hope to visit. I’ve heard amazing things about the town, and love how quaint and romantic this inn feels! My friends from Palm Beach Lately wrote an amazing travel guide to the spot here.

The Inn at Little Washington

Washington, Virginia

I so hope to head up north during this upcoming fall. While doing some research, I came across this stunning hotel, The Inn at Little Washington. The rooms are unlike anything I’ve ever seen! Check them out here.

The Willcox

Aiken, South Carolina

The Wilcox made it onto the South’s Best 2019 list from Southern Living and it’s easy to see why. Rocking chairs on a wrap-around porch, gorgeous dining, I want to move right in!

Blackberry Farm

Walland, Tennessee

I had the privilege of meeting Mary Celeste Beall, proprietor of Blackberry Farm, this past January at the Southern Living Tastemakers convention. Hearing her speak with so much love and passion about this family-owned destination made me want to visit right away. Take a look at their gorgeous website to see for yourself just how magical this special place, tucked awy in the Tennessee Foothills, is!

Jekyll Island Club Resort

Jekyll Island, Georgia

southern destinations, jekyll island resort

Oceanfront, riverfront, poolside, golf course… however you like to relax, Jekyll Island Club Resort looks like the perfect place to do it all. Not only is the property gorgeous, but the resort has done a fabulous job of communicating precautionary COVID-19 measures, which you can check out here. This spot is just about 3 hours from us, and I’m thinking a weekend beach trip is just what the doctor ordered.

Montage Palmetto Bluff

Bluffton, South Carolina

I knew I’d found my dream destination when the words “A Classic Southern Escape” caught my eye on the homepage of Montage Palmetto Bluff. I’m dying to visit this dreamy spot in the South Carolina low country. Horseback riding, yachting, golfing, skeet shooting… the only question is, what to do first?!

The Cloister

Sea Island, Georgia

I don’t exactly remember how I first heard about Sea Island, but over the years it continues to pop up here and there. This five-star resort on the Georgia coast looks like something out of a movie, and don’t even get me started on the decor. I’ve heard nothing but rave reviews from friends who have visited The Cloister, and hope to experience all the gorgeous grandeur for myself soon!

Crescent Hotel and Spa

Eureka Springs, Arkansas

No, Eureka Springs may not be the first place you think of for a getaway, but let me tell you from experience that it is such a hidden gem! My family and I stopped for the night on the way back from summer camp one year, and I’ll never forget just how charming this magical little town was. Dying to go back! Word on the street is the Crescent Hotel is one of the most haunted hotels in America!

The Omni Grove Park Inn

Asheville, North Carolina

If you’re craving somewhere cozy this fall, check out the Omni Grove Park Inn in Asheville, North Caroline. If the gorgeous spa isn’t enough to reel you in, the stunning views most assuredly are!

Anchorage 1770

Beaufort, South Carolina

Combine the charm of the South Carolina Lowcountry with the old-world charm of this beautiful hotel, built in 1770 no less, and you’ve got a winning combination. This river-front boutique hotel, Anchorage 1770, offers 1500 square feet of front porches, and sounds like just the place I want to spend a balmy summer night!

Have you been to any of these spots? I’d love to hear about it, if so! And I’m always looking for new destinations to add to my list, so feel free to leave your favorites below!

Kate

latest & greatest vol. 91

Here I am y’all… back with my first Latest and Greatest roundup since March! (Also… when the heck did it become May. Did anyone else seem to miss that?!)

Here I am y’all… back with my first Latest and Greatest roundup since March! (Also… when the heck did it become May. Did anyone else seem to miss that?!)

We all know these past few months have been hard in a lot of different ways, and as I’ve sought to figure out what type of content to be sharing around here, I decided to take a bit of a pause from rounding up cute new arrivals on the web. My intention behind sharing fun finds has always been to hopefully inspire you rather than to push a sale on you, especially since “online window shopping” is one of my personal favorite ways to stay inspired. But with the odd climate, I wanted to stay away from making anyone feel like they needed something they didn’t.

As things have slowly started to feel more and more normal (although I know we have a long way to go) I’ve found myself virtually meandering through a few favorite websites and soaking in all of the fun spring and summer inspo. And so today, I wanted to share what I came across!

There are a lot of hard things going on, and I myself have been wading through them this week. I hope this roundup of cute new arrivals simply adds a bit of lighthearted brightness and normalcy to your day… nothing more!

I really want to thank y’all for your support and flexibility as I navigate this season. In a livelihood maintained in large part by online sale commissions, I’ve grappled with how to carry on in the middle of everything going on. While I certainly don’t think I’ve gotten it right 100% of the time, I hope I’ve walked the delicate line of creating uplifting and appropriate content while adding some positivity and a few pretty things to your day!

Love from the Sunshine State,

Kate
