new arrivals // serrena & lily

Most people hate subscribing to retailer mailing lists, but I have to confess… I have an affinity for them. And there’s always one subject line that causes me to immediately open: new arrivals!

Serena & Lily just debuted over 450 new arrivals, and I’ve had the best time digging (or rather, clicking) through all of the pretty pieces. I wanted to share a few of my favorites with you!

new arrivals

1. raffia scallop side table / 2. beach strip pillow cover / 3. pfeiffer table lamp / 4. blue bone inlay tray / 5. wicker pacifica sofa / 6. white wicker loring chair / 7. monterey pillow cover / 8. alamere rug / 9. tavira tissue holder / 10. blue barton sofa / 11. wicker kent lantern / 12. samal bowl / 13. blue and white pendant / 14. wicker woven pendant / 15. raffia four poster bed

Even though most of the gorgeous items Serena & Lily offers are not really in my budget (or anywhere close to being in it, haha) I love being inspired by their creations! From textures (all the raffia, please) to color combinations to shapes, there’s so much beauty to glean.

I like to apply this concept to all areas of life. If you find yourself discontented or discouraged at not being able to afford something, try shifting gears to appreciating and being inspired by the beauty!

From time to time, I get comments from people upset about the pricepoint of certain pieces I share. This is a friendly reminder that there will always be things out of our price range (at least that is true for me!) and that’s ok! In today’s world of social media comparison, it’s so easy to get caught up in what we feel we “don’t have” but “everyone else does.” I, for one, am definitely not immune. That’s why I think it’s so important we always look to live life inspired instead of discontented. That little shift can make all the difference.

For example, I could look at these gorgeous home pieces and allow myself to get discontent with what my home looks like now. Instead, I’m thinking “I love this color combination! How can I recreate that with what I own?” or “That scalloped detailing is fabulous! I’m going to keep my eye out for something similar next time I’m antique shopping.”

Now, I definitely recognize the irony in sharing this as a fashion blogger (who makes part of her living on commission) but my hope truly has always been that the things I share inspire rather than pressure you. When I started blogging, there wasn’t a way to turn profit. It was simply about sharing what you loved. Over the years, for better or worse, I’ve seen a shift from sharing what you love to sharing what you can sell. And sometimes I wish we could go back, you know?

Because in my experience, switching from discontentment to a state of continual inspiration is a much happier and much more fun way to live. Not only that, it stretches my creativity with and appreciation for the things I’m lucky enough to own!

Wow. I just stopped typing and had no idea this post was going to turn into a little (or rather, long-winded) pep talk. Classic Kate! But y’all know me. When something’s on my heart, I have to share! And I so appreciate y’all giving me a platform to do so. Sending you hugs!

“But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that.”

Kate–Thank you for sharing! While I admittedly love your sense of style and taste, I’ve always loved following your blog for your writing! You have a way with words and seem to always sum up the most complex thoughts so elegantly. I really appreciate your transparency and the timely reminder to have a heart of thankfulness.
