my spring bucket list

Over the past few days, we have had the most gorgeous weather here in Gainesville. I find myself thinking again and again, “So this is why people move to Florida!” The hot and humid days in August and September are enough to do me in, but I have to say that dealing with those conditions is worth it because of the perfect weather we get in late winter and early spring!

Every year for as long as I can remember, I experience a noticeable change in my mood when spring rolls in. Anyone else?! There’s nothing that puts a smile on my face quite like sunshine, blue skies, a balmy breeze, and fresh air.

Since I know many of us are still a few weeks (if not a month or two) away from spring, I thought I’d share a little bucket list of things to do to get you in that happy, optimistic spring mentality… even if it’s still cold where you are!

my spring bucket list

9 things to put a bit of spring in your step, literally

1. treat yourself to some self-tanner

For the first time in months, I pulled out my self-tanner, and y’all… what a difference it makes! That 10 minutes it takes to apply is one of my favorite self-care rituals. I woke up feeling rosey, tan, and ready for the warm weather ahead! (Why does it make me feel fitter too? Haha!) There are so many on the market, but I’m a purist and have never strayed from St. Tropez Classic Bronzing Mousse. I use this $5 mitt from Amazon to apply, and this Artis brush to blend onto my hands and feet! (You can also use this less expensive brush.)

2. create a spring playlist

I’m a seasonal music listener… know what I mean? I love moody, slow country and folk during fall, classic oldies and Christmas music during winter, and when spring hits? Upbeat, fun country and happy tunes! One of my favorite ways to switch mindsets is to change up my music. Take a few minutes to explore new playlists today, or create your own! A few of my favorite Spotify playlists for spring? Happy Beats and this Country playlist my friend Caroline showed me!

3. make an iced latte

Y’all know I’m a loyal 3pm coffee-breaker, and around this time of year I like to switch from hot to iced. There’s nothing more refreshing than an iced latte, and I love using this recipe to create a refreshing (and caffeinated) afternoon beverage. It’s so easy and so delicious!

4. put away winter clothing

Spring cleaning goes a long way in not only tidying up, but mentally decluttering as well! If you’re able, plan an hour to transition your wardrobe. Out with the coats, in with the color! I promise it is so fun to remind yourself of all of the fun spring and summer pieces you have to look forward to wearing! (Need a bit of re-organizing as well? Check out my favorite Amazon hack for headbands!)

5. light a new candle

Who doesn’t love a new candle?! Something as simple as picking a new fragrance to fill your home with is one of my favorite ways to usher in spring. I’m currently loving this candle my mom gave me for Christmas and this Target find! (It’s huge and just $25!)

6. start a lighthearted book

This weekend, Andrew and I headed outside so he could do some studying in the fresh air. I decided to bring along a book, and grabbed Pride and Prejudice… which has been sitting on my shelf forever! I cannot even begin to tell you how enjoyable it’s been to lose myself in this lovely, period love story. So looking forward to spending the next few weeks with Elizabeth Bennett! (How darling is this Jane Austen set? May have to pull the trigger!)

7. plant something green

If you following along on Instagram, you know that about a week ago I planted a Bougainvillea! I have never been a gardener, much less anyone with anything close to a green thumb, but this little project has been so much fun. For one, it’s forced me to get outdoors more. It’s also been such a joy to check in on this beautiful plant every day and to tend to it. Andrew has a little standing garden on our back porch and is loving the process as well. If you don’t have an outdoor space, consider this indoor self-growing planter. It gets amazing reviews and my sister loves it!

8. paint your nails

There’s nothing like a fresh coat of paint to spruce things up, and the same is true when it comes to a manicure! No need to head to the salon. Grab yourself an Olive & June set and do it yourself! This is not sponsored, ps. I just tried the mani set out for the first time last week after a horrible salon experience and was blown away at how great the experience was. (So neat, so tidy, and a week later my at-home manicure still looks great!) Plus, Olive & June has so many fun new spring colors out! This link will get you $10 off of your first purchase over $50.

9. make a homemade acai bowl

I’m a pretty boring, habitual lunch eater. I love a big dinner, so lunches are usually something light and easy! I love an avocado toast during winter, but when spring rolls around I switch to a yummy homemade acai bowl. They’re delicious, and so much cheaper than buying from a restaurant! Here is the recipe I use!

If you’re craving the season of sunshine, I hope these ideas start getting you in that mindset! I would love to hear what you like to do to get ready for spring. The more ideas the better!

Love from the Sunshine State,

Kate

Gainesville is hell from late April to late September. It is then paradise the rest of the year. I still miss Fall, Winter, and early Spring! Enjoy the weather!
