my living room tour

Drumroll, please… after months and months of planning, perfecting and procrastinating, it’s finally here… my living room tour!

This was my first and very favorite space to decorate because I quite literally started from scratch. As a first-time decorator, I quickly learned that furnishing a room can get expensive. Quickly. So I had so much fun putting this together in a budget-friendly way! (We’re talking gold IKEA spray painted everything.)

I knew this is the one season in my life I’ll be living alone and in my own space, so I decided to go as girly glam as my heart desired. Pink rug? Why not! Gold faux longhorn mount? Sure!

All the Home Goods, Wisteria Outlet and IKEA trips finally paid off. I ended up loving the happy, girly, warm and bright feeling of this living room! It’s a lot, to be sure, but somehow it all works together.

As always, I’ve linked all of the similar pieces I could find above! If they’re unavailable, I’ll note that as well and link a similar product.

You’ll find specifics on how I decorated using different pieces below:

The Couch // I purchased the IKEA Ektorp couch for it’s classic, clean look and budget-friendly price tag. To freshen up the look, I removed the back cushions and replaced with large pillows! The two solid white pillows are also from IKEA. The pink pom pom pillows are from Home Goods, and my mother actually made the blue suzani pillow! (Yes, she’s amazing.)

Gallery Wall // After combing through Pinterest, I found the perfect solution to decorating above my sofa… a symmetrical series of gold, matted frames filled with my favorite Instagram photos. I purchased the frames from PictureFrames.com (size 16″ x 16″, click here for the exact style) and added matting from MatboardandMore.com (size 16″ x 16″ with 3 3/4″ x 3 3/4″ opening size). While it was a bit expensive to put it all together, the impact was well worth the price. Now that I’m in my new apartment, I plan on updating the photos and mounting again!

Gold Shelf // Calling all DIY lovers… we’ve got an IKEA hack on our hands! I purchased the glass Vittsjo shelf from Ikea, spray painted it gold and voila! A perfect statement piece for under $100.

Pink Rug // Finding a rug was easily the most challenging part of the entire decorating process. I must have ordered (and consequently returned) five different ones before landing on this beauty from Wayfair! Unfortunately, it’s sold out. :( But there are lots of gorgeous pink rugs out there still… take a look at this selection!

Longhorn Bust // Let me introduce one of my best friends, this gold-horned longhorn. Oh y’all, I love him! The Etsy shop I ordered him from has tons of cool animal mounts in a huge array of colors. Perfect decorative accent!

Ginger Jars // Adding in a variety of blue and white ginger jars gave this room the touch of timelessness it needed. No matter your style, I’d recommend them for any room! I purchased mine from Wisteria.

TV Console // Are y’all keying into the fact that I love Wisteria? I purchased this console from their warehouse sale, but just saw that it’s currently on sale for 60% off, making it $318 as opposed to $800!

Circular Mirror // This was one of my favorite HomeGoods finds to date. If you’re decorating on a budget, I recommend checking this spot out! It’s always a hit or miss, but when it’s a hit, it’s a good one. I can’t even count the number of times I visited HomeGoods while decorating!

***If there was something you’re interested in that I haven’t listed above, that’s because it’s unavailable. My apologies!

I am thrilled to say that as of last night, I am officially moved into my new apartment! And y’all… it’s dreamy. The fun thing about it is that all of my decor from my past apartment worked perfectly in this one, so I won’t have to buy too much! I am on the lookout for a dining table, though, and a few other things for here and there.

Thank you so much for your patience with this post! I had it scheduled for yesterday, but my WIFI ended up taking longer than expected to get all set up.

I can’t tell you how fun it is to finally share such a personal place with y’all. So many memories were made here, and I’ll always look back on this first one-bedroom apartment with so much love in my heart!

Love from Texas,

Kate

To be honest orange is my least favorite color but I absolutely love your apartment and how you used the color with the pink. I love how light and girly it is while still being sophisticated. Great job!!!

Speaking honestly, is the Ikea couch comfortable?? It looks exactly like the one I’m eyeing from Pottery Barn, but for a fraction of the cost. But, on the other hand, it’s an investment piece that I plan to have for a long time, so I don’t want to settle on comfort.

I love what you did with the couch!! I have the same couch and struggle with the back cushions. Your updated pillows make it look so nice! Which IKEA pillows did you use? Are they an insert with a case over? Seriously, they look so good!

Love the gallery wall! I have been looking for a way to fill a large wall without spending so much money on a large painting! Especially love that you will be able to change out the photos…Did you order the acrylic front and foam core backing with the frame or have that done locally? What color mat was used? Can’t wait to get started!
