leavin’ on a jet plane

I can’t believe it’s here. This morning, I land in Paris!

If you’ve been following along here for a while, you might remember that my last trip to Paris (this past November) was sadly cut short after being in the city the night of the attacks. Once the borders re-opened that following Sunday morning, I immediately got on a plane back to Dallas a full 5 days before my scheduled departure.

I haven’t talked much about that night here (besides a brief recap on the blog here) because I haven’t been, and am still not I suppose, sure how to address it or even process the emotions surrounding it. It was a defining moment in my life for sure, and one I haven’t necessarily been able to shake.

But after returning home, I quickly realized that I didn’t want that devastating whirlwind of a weekend to be my last memory of Paris. There is so much beauty in that city and so much light, and that’s what I want to remember it for.

Walking away from that trip, I think I came away with an underlying, subtle anxiety that I’m not safe traveling alone. Returning is, in a sense, a step forward in confidence that I’ve been desiring to take ever since last fall.

So, long story short… I’m off! And I’m SO looking forward to seeing the city in summer. My suitcase is packed to the brim with easy, feminine dresses, and I’ve got a full itinerary of things to do with my friend Katie, who I’ll be visiting! (Fun fact, it’s her birthday today! Can you imagine celebrating yours in PARIS? I’m living vicariously through her…) As always, I’d love any recommendations… especially places to eat and people watch!

I’ll be keeping y’all updated on Snapchat, so be sure you’re following along at LonestarSnaps to see bits and pieces of my adventure in the city of lights! I’ll also be posting on Instagram with the travel hashtag #LonestarXWanderlust. Be sure you’re registered for LiketoKnow. It so you can shop my suitcase on the go!

Love from Texas,

Kate

P.S. I HAD to share the dress I’m most excited about bringing in my suitcase. This off the sleeve bow frock. Isn’t it gorgeous?! Thinking it deserves a little trip to the Eiffel tower, don’t you?

Hi Kate! I love your blog. Paris is one my favorite places in the world. You should check out a place called Café Du Trocadéro. It sits up behind the Eiffel Tower. Go at night, as it is the perfect place to have a snack, some wine, people watch AND watch the tower twinkle at night. Enjoy and safe travels!

Ahh! So jealous! I love Paris!! If you are looking for steak frites you have to go to Le Relais de L’Entrecote!! It’s a smallish family owned chain that started in Paris, I believe there are 3 restaurants in Paris. But the only thing on their menu is steak frites and it’s soo good! Every time my family is in a city with one we always make it a point to go!! Have fun in Paris!!
