wedding sledding no. 2 // when and where we are getting married

It’s official… Wednesdays have become my new favorite day of the blog week! Ever since sharing my first wedding update last week (hilariously dubbed “wedding sledding” by my father) I’ve been in a tizzy of excitement realizing that I get to share this entire process with you! Having a group of friends (albeit virtual! :) to share my excitement with has already been the sweetest thing, so thank you for sharing in the fun of this season with me!

Last week I asked you to vote on Instagram whether you wanted to hear how Andrew and I met or when we’re getting married for the first update… me and Andrew’s story won out by a couple hundred of votes, so today I’m so excited to share when it is we’re getting married!

Let me start out by saying that I won’t be sharing the actual date here on the blog. I know if I was reading this from a blogger I follow, I’d be thinking, “Wait, no! I’m dying to know! Why not?!” To answer that, it really is just a small way to make sure I’m fully present during the week-of and, most importantly, on the big day itself!

I know I’ll be extra emotional/excited/tired/caffeinated/overwhelmed that week/weekend, so taking away the added pressure of social media will help me to soak everything in as best as I can! At least, that’s my hope! :)

I’m already looking forward to “surprising” y’all the day after, and rest assured, I’ll still be sharing all of the planning details leading up to the wedding! Plus, the week after the wedding (AKA the week we’re honeymooning… eek!!!) is when I’ll be covering all of the date-specific details that I won’t be sharing beforehand. Needless to say, it’s going to be a fun week here on Lonestar Southern, and I can hardly wait!

All that being said… I am so excited to share the month Andrew and I will be getting married. Drumroll please…

June!

Yes, y’all, as in June 2019! If you do the math, it’s only seven and a half months away! (But who’s counting, right?) That honestly feels so soon, and I already know these next few months are going to fly by.

I’ll be sharing the reason why we’re getting married in June, specifically, in a future blog post, but that’s a whole other story! For now, let’s just say I am over the moon to get married in this picture perfect, summery month, however cliché it may be. I never imagined I’d be a June bride!

Now on to the “where.” Since both of our families, and many of our friends, are from Dallas, Dallas was such a natural, easy decision for us in terms of location. I’m so excited that we will be getting married at a church and dancing the night away at a reception venue that are each very special to us and to our families. Like I mentioned above, I’ll be spilling more about the exact locations after the fact!

I’m resisting the urge to type out my vision and ideas for the look and feel of the wedding right this second, but I think that’s a post for another day. Would y’all be interested in seeing some “wedding inspiration” for an upcoming Wedding Sledding post? Let me know, if so!

If there’s one thing I’ve learned throughout my quick intro into wedding planning thus far, it’s that planning a wedding in Dallas, and in June, is not for the faint of heart. I figured it would be a busy month for wedding vendors, but could never have predicted how far in advance many wedding-related services would already be booked up! Oh, little naive Kate.

Because of that, I’m feeling so incredibly thankful that we have the big things like the church, reception venue and a few other important pieces of the puzzle all booked and ready to go (can’t wait to share more about these!) and that now the fun, creative process can begin! My wheels are already spinning, and I can’t wait to bring y’all along!

Thank y’all again for sharing in this season with me! Don’t forget, if there’s a specific wedding-related post you’d like to see, let me know in the comments!

Love from Texas,

Kate

Hi! I am also getting married in DFW in June 2019! Such an exciting time. I would love to see a post on where to register for various ‘types’ of things. For example, there are lots of China options at one store over another! I love your style and would love more info on the best places at various price points! Thanks so much!

Congratulations Kate!! Every thing will turn out beautifully! And 7 1/2 months is plenty of time! I have found that planning my wedding from June of this year to a December 1st wedding…. of THIS year (thanks to having a fiancé in the military)…. is just the right amount of time to plan in advance without giving yourself too much time to overthink and second guess! This is such a fun process so ENJOY it!! Can’t wait to follow along!

Hi Kate! I was also a June bride, and I think you will find that you are grateful for a shorter engagement. We were engaged for 15ish months, and honestly, we were over it at the one year mark. My best advice is to use this initial burst of enthusiasm to get a LOT done (before you get too annoyed, ha).

That’s exciting! My fiancé and I have picked May 2020( because I don’t like 19 being an odd number…) and it feels so far away, but I’m glad we have time to figure out everything.

Also, I wish you knew where you were going on your honeymoon (yay Andrew for planning that surprise himself!) there are so many wonderful places to travel in June but I just have no idea how to choose!! :)

Ooooh! June is going to be a beautiful time to get married! So excited for you!!! I’d love for you to do a inspo board for each season! It would be fun to see what colors you’d pick for a fall or winter wedding if that had been the direction you went! Can’t wait for more, these are quickly becoming my favorite posts!

Congrats! I’m so happy for you and Andrew! 💕

Seriously, don’t stress! My husband and I planned our wedding in six months, and it was nice to get it over with and not have all the extra months to stress out about everything. God will point you to the right vendors! Try to enjoy the moment. Remember that only you will know what things aren’t exactly as you wanted; everyone else will think it is beautiful and perfect! And things may seem like a big deal in the moment, but I promise that afterwards, you’ll realize those things don’t matter when you’re marrying your best friend.

Oh! And last thing: Make sure to be super sweet to your momma! It is really easy to take your stress out on her, but just remember she loves you and Andrew so much. And that she’s just trying to do everything she can to make your wedding dreams come true. Just speaking from experience 😉!

  14. We are in the same boat: I am getting married as well but we are getting on our seventh anniversary in March. I would say not to sweat the small stuff. Also, don’t let other people try to high jack your wedding and make it into what they would want to do. I’m planning a small destination wedding with few people present due to seeing all the chaos that happened at some of my friends and family members weddings.

Congrats on choosing a date Kate! I’m sure your day will be lovely as ever just like you! I’d love to see how you keep your bridesmaids organized and involved. Are you assigning them tasks for the big day or are y’all just getting ready together and taking everything as it comes? Are you letting them choose their own dresses? Have you asked them yet?
