TGIT! I’ve been looking forward to today all week… Why? Because this evening I board a plane to Washington D.C. with one of my best friends, Julie! A few of our friends (Kendall, Bailey and Hope) are working there this summer, so Julie and I decided we couldn’t pass up on a trip to visit them in such an amazing city. That is the one upside to my friends moving all across the US after graduation… I get the best excuses to travel! :)

It’s a short trip since we’ll be returning on Monday, so I’m trying to pack a super strategic bag. (Speaking of, how cute is this Barrington bag?! You can customize the pattern and your initials!) The best way to do this, in my opinion, is to bring along the easiest mix-and-match pieces you own.

For example, taking a cross body that works both site-seeing during the day in sandals, and then also out at night in wedges gets a lot of wear out of a few pieces. A pair of nicer shorts is a must, since I’ll be walking outside a ton and won’t want to be in jeans. Pairing a couple different colors of J.Crew chinos with this easy white top makes for a cute, lightweight wear-all-day outfit! Finally, a light summer dress (like this gorgeous blush number) that you can wear from day to night is a must. Then bring along a few pieces of jewelry that go with every outfit!

Also, I’m giddy about these sunglasses I just got yesterday! After seeing them on Lucy Hale here, I had to splurge. They arrive today, so I’ll be sure to debut them on Snapchat! (My account is @lonestarsnaps – I’d love for you to follow along!)

If you have any expertise on D.C.(we’ll be staying in Georgetown) and have recommendations on places to see, eat, shop, etc. please leave them in the comments! I haven’t been to D.C. since 8th grade, so I can use all of the suggestions I can get.

Have the BEST Thursday, friends!

Love from Texas,

Kate

I live in DC just north of Georgetown! A few recommendations–visit the monuments at night, as we’ve been having very hot weather lately. Go to the Tombs for a drink and dinner and Chez Billy Sud in Georgetown for brunch (fantastic French food, the most delicious espresso cinnamon roll, and outdoor seating). Baked & Wired has, by far, the best cupcakes! The rooftop at the Graham Hotel has a great bar and an even better view. Fiola Mare and Sequoia at the waterfront are also delicious, especially Fiola Mare. Orange Anchor has a great “oyster happy hour” from Monday-Friday at 5-6 pm! Dumbarton Oaks is one of the best museums in DC and has gorgeous gardens, and Hillwood Estate is simply fabulous (their motto is “where fabulous lives”!) Enjoy!

Georgetown during the day: M Street! You could spend an entire day window shopping and eating. Then, at night, go down to the waterfront. There is a bunch of bars and restaurants right on the water, and if it’s a nice night, all the boats and yachts pull in.

For restaurants, I love Farmers Fishers Bakers and Founding Farmers. They’re both farm-to-table restaurants with Southern American menus. (The Pot Roast is amazing!) If you want a burger, I love Thunder Burger Bar. They have a ton of exotic kinds, and the inside of the restaurant is so cool. Try to get a table back in the grass room!

Even though I’ve lived in the area my entire life, I still like browsing through the museums. You can spin through pretty quickly to see the highlights. The animals and precious stones in the Natural History Museum. The First Ladies exhibit in the American History Museum. All the Degas and Monet paintings in the National Gallery of Art.

One note on what to wear though–DC is wicked humid right now. It’s hot, but the humidity takes it to the next level. Dress for being cool, and expect you’re going to sweat through everything.

+1 to Founding Farmers (yum) and M Street in Georgetown. It’s really good I don’t live there – I’d be broke!

You really can’t miss the Air and Space Museum. So amazing. I’ve been there three or four times now and would happily go again tomorrow.

Obviously – the major memorials on the Mall are really important to see, if you haven’t yet.

At night: the best views in town – the rooftop bar at the W Hotel!

Hi Kate! My brother went to Georgetown and every time we visit we go to Thunderburger and Bar for brunch! It is SOO good! I definitely recommend visiting! Also, Baked and Wired is an amazing and trendy place to get coffee and big cupcakes/muffins. Also, Ristorante Piccolo is a cute little Italian restaurant for a nice dinner out. Delicious :) Hope this helps!
