scripture to soothe // a few of your favorite verses

This morning, I woke up with a heaviness on my heart. I’m usually a pretty optimistic, cheerful person… I guess it’s just my natural disposition. But not this morning. This morning, I just felt really weighed down by everything going on in this world.

Needing comfort, I turned to the one source that always fills my cup… the Word. And just like He always does, the Lord met me right where I was at and reminded me of His goodness, His faithfulness, and His love. This is the verse I opened to, and it deeply encouraged me:

Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love,
    that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.

Psalm 90:14

His unfailing love is what allows me to be glad and filled with joy all my days, even on the ones that feel heavy. I needed that reminder today, and I’m so thankful He knew that before I even did!

I took to Instagram stories to share that moment with y’all, and asked you to share with me the verses you turn to when you’re needing comfort and a reminder of God’s love. You all came through with so many replies… I can’t tell you what a blessing it was to open up that thread and see reminder after reminder of the Lord’s love! Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for sharing them with me today.

I also received more than a few requests to share your replies, so I thought I’d round up a few of them right here. I wish I had room for every single verse that was shared, but we’d be scrolling for a long, long time! (How encouraging is that?!) So I selected a few pretty much at random to share with you today.

My heart in sharing these is that if you ever find yourself struggling and need to be reminded of how much the Lord loves you, you can simply open this page and scroll through promise after promise. Spoiler alert: the Word is filled with these promises, including so many beautiful ones that aren’t included in this short post, and I can’t encourage you enough to open the pages and see for yourself!

I especially love that these were all submitted by you! Ladies who follow along here on Lonestar Southern… what a community of encouragement!

For some of the verses, I decided to share the full corresponding passage and I hope you don’t mind! Sometimes when I focus on one singular verse, I miss out on the encouraging words that come before and after it. It was so refreshing to look these up and read through them as a whole, and I hope you find it encouraging as well.

Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?
