my november powersheets

Happy November 2nd, y’all!

I always love the beginnings of each new month… for me, they serve as natural “refresh” buttons. I love closing out the month by reflecting on the past few weeks and thinking through my goals and priorities for the next. This process helps me bring intentionality and focus to my every day, something this non-type A, disorganized girl needs in spades!

A little over a year ago, I came across Lara Casey’s page on Instagram (through Emily Ley, another girl crush!) and was subsequently introduced to her organizational system, PowerSheets.

This little notebook is an amazing tool for defining what is most important in your life and creating action steps to prioritize them. Let me tell y’all… when I make the time at the end of each month to work through these sheets, I find myself so much more focused and equipped to take the reigns on the month ahead instead of letting it slip by.

Today, I thought it would be fun to share my November power sheets with y’all! You’ll find a mix of personal and work thoughts/goals scattered throughout, along with a verse I’m praying through for November. I hope it’s fun to see this “behind the scenes” look at my life, and serves as inspiration for your month!

A few thoughts on my November PowerSheets…

You’ll notice that one of my daily goals is to say no to a sweet – ha! I want to take a second to clarify this. I am a firm believer in the idea that food shouldn’t control you. That everyone should be able to “eat the cookie” instead of warring over it or feeling guilty for enjoying a treat. My problem, friends, is that I have a huge sugar addiction. Just ask anyone who knows me! So this month, I’m going to be trying to increase my discipline when it comes to sugar… prayers would be greatly appreciated. (And you’ll notice that it says “a sweet” instead of “all sweets”… let’s just be realistic, shall we?)

Another goal for the month of November is to find a need in Houston and meet it… this is where I’d love to get your input! If you know of a family with a specific need, an incredible organization doing awesome things in the wake of the flooding, etc, would you let me know? I’d love to keep y’all posted on this one. Maybe there’s something we can do as a Lonestar Southern fam!

Finally, I’ve been convicted lately of how I use my time. Since I work alone, a whole day can go by that is totally focused on me. My work, my workout routine, what I want for dinner, getting into bed in time to watch a show I love, etc. By no means is any of this bad, but I’ve realized that I’m not good at sharing time with others. Perhaps it’s because I view that as something that needs to happen “after work hours.” When it comes down to it, however, I think that just stems out of my own selfishness.

When I think about my ultimate goal in life, it’s to show Christ’s love to as many people as I can while I’m here on earth, and what’s the best way to do that? To be with people! It’s hard to love from afar, so this month I’m working on changing that tendency. More friend time… yay!

That’s why this month, I’m meditating on Psalm 90: 12-17. I’m asking the Lord to grant me the wisdom to use each hour in the day wisely and to establish the work He’s set out for me to do. What a comfort that “His grace is sufficient for me, and His power is made perfect in my weakness” because y’all, I am not good at this.  (P.S. That verse is 2 Corinthians 12:9… thinking I need to add that to the list of verses I want to memorize this month!)

Well… I’ve never been lacking in words, let me tell ya! If you made it to the end of this post, I’m so grateful. Now I’d love to hear your thoughts. What your November goals/wishes/dreams are, how you set out your month, verses you’re working on memorizing, tools you use, etc! I’m always looking for inspiration, and I’ve learned y’all are the absolute best place to look!

Love from Texas,

Kate

Thank you SO much for this post! I’ve been interested in Power Sheets for a while, as I use Lara Casey’s “Write the Word” journals. (Highly recommend!) I was a little overwhelmed by the Power Sheets before, but you make them seem like a great tool. I worry about time getting away from me and not accomplishing all that I mean to, so I may look into getting these! Also, thank you for sharing about your faith! I love reading about your perspective and how you choose to follow God day to day.

This post really spoke to me. Recently
I’ve been trying to get better at not just making to do lists, but prioritizing goals and not letting things like calling friends get hidden in the endless list of everyday tasks. I’ll have to check out these goal planners. Thank you! xxAllie http://www.theallthatglittersblog.com

Love this!!! My powersheets are such a great tool for prioritizing and focusing on what’s important. I’m in Houston and so thankful that you’re helping a cause down here! We lost our house and both our cars – and – SO SAD – my SoulCycle shoes and my beloved Barrington bags that your blog introduced me to! I’m looking forward to hopefully being able to replace them this Christmas. If you’re looking for an organization to donate to, Boys and Girls Harbor is a great organization here that was impacted by the floods. They help at-risk kids and one of their facilities was completely ruined in the storm. Lone Star Legal Aid is also in need!

First of all, I love that you’re willing to share this with us-I am always so inspired by others goals-it makes me want to live my life in a more intentional way. I’m not much help with finding a Houston need for you to meet, but if you follow Megan at Honey We’re Home, she had several families listed on her blog that had needs-if you could connect with her, then possibly she might be able to help you, help others! I just love your heart, Kate-your posts always uplift me!

Element City Church in Humble, TX has been doing a lot to help rebuild in the Kingwood/Atascocita area after Harvey. The pastor worked at my church before leaving to start his own last year and helped rescue tons of people during the flood and has been helping with demo and rebuild. They are working with another church, but I don’t remember which. Contact Chad Barrett or check out their FB page. They would know how to get you plugged in or help you work with some families in need.

Houstonian here, glad that you are looking for ways to help. There is still much need. Most of the large needs are being filled by capable, established organizations and they are doing great work. However, many farmers are in a place of great need. Farms were flooded, making it difficult for these folks to maintain their farms and hold onto their land. I haven’t seen any major efforts to help farmers in need, so, I’d say to look there. Farm Aid might be a good place to start.

Here is an article that shares just one story. http://www.grubstreet.com/2017/11/garrett-gundermann-hurricane-harvey-vegetable-farming.html
