No exaggeration here, there is absolutely nothing I love to do more than go horseback riding. I won’t even deny it, y’all… I definitely was that “weird horse girl” growing up. (One of the boys in my class used to try to make me cry by telling me glue was made from horses, ha!) To put it simply, whenever I’m riding, I’m at my very happiest.

The only problem about being a city girl, even in Texas, is that it’s hard to make horseback riding a consistent activity in my schedule. The year after I graduated from college, I took riding lessons with my old trainer which I loved. Pretty soon, however, the demands of a work/life balance coupled with the 40 minute drive to the barn both ways made it impossible to keep them up.

That’s why anytime I go on vacation, I always prioritize getting a ride in! On my recent trip to The Greenbrier, I was thrilled to see they offered trail rides. You can bet I booked one on the spot!

Since I’ve grown up riding in Texas, things have always been pretty flat. What I loved about this experience, though, was getting to ride through the beautiful mountains surrounding The Greenbrier property.

And let me tell y’all… this wasn’t any snooze-worthy trial ride. I had told my guide I’d love to canter, and so canter we did! I will never forget the feeling of racing along the top of the mountain with the cold wind in my face. I had the biggest grin on the entire time and felt like a goofball, but it was magical! Best. Feeling. In. The. World.

One thing I love about fall and winter fashion is the classic, equestrian influences often incorporated. This reversible blackwatch plaid vest from Vineyard Vines was the perfect layer for keeping me warm, and since I didn’t have room to pack up my actual riding boots, this J.Crew pair (similar here) worked nicely!

One of these days, friends, I will get a horse. Preferably a paint pony… but I’m not picky. :) Santa, did you hear that?

Ok friends… how is it we are almost halfway through December? I’ll be hard at work this weekend putting together some extensive gift guides for you.. be sure to check back Sunday and Monday!

Love from Texas,

Kate

That green coat is gorgeous! And what a wonderful afternoon! I haven’t ridden a horse in ages, this was a great reminder that I should get back in the saddle! xAllie http://www.theallthatglittersblog.com
